Funding Sources

Riverwoods Behavioral Health System is able to accept a wide variety of funding sources including many managed care/commercial insurances, traditional Medicare and Medicare replacement or HMO plans, and Managed Medicaid plans such as Amerigroup, Cenpatico, and Wellcare. Our Intake professionals will attempt to verify insurance benefits and to pre-certify the admission prior to the patient’s arrival. Our staff will then review the benefits coverage and any applicable patient responsibility with the patient or responsible party during the admissions process.

Admissions

Riverwoods Behavioral Health System accepts both voluntary and involuntary direct admissions from a variety of referral sources in the community. Upon making a referral to Riverwoods Behavioral Health System, our Intake team will ask for your preferences regarding ongoing communication of the patient’s progress and discharge planning. We make every effort to obtain signed releases of information for professionals involved in each patient’s care at the time of admission.

Involuntary

For involuntary admissions, our Intake staff is standing by around-the-clock to pre-screen the direct admissions, consult with our physicians, verify the insurance benefits for you, and as needed, arrange transportation for inpatient admissions at no additional cost to the patient or referral source. Referrals can be arranged 24/7 by calling our main number at (833) 623-0918.

Voluntary

Voluntary admissions can be arranged in a variety of methods. The referring agency can call and staff the case directly with one of our mental health professionals in the Intake Department. After receiving all information we will consult with our physician to determine the appropriate level of care for the patient. This allows the referring agency to communicate any concerns and provide documentation that the patient was admitted to one of our various programs. If inpatient treatment is necessary we will secure a bed and get admission orders in place prior to the patient’s arrival. If needed, our staff can arrange ambulance transportation to ensure safe and immediate arrival to the facility.

The referring agency also has the option to have the patient call and schedule an appointment to meet with our mental health professionals for a free confidential assessment. Our staff will meet with the patient and make the determination for the least restrictive treatment option.

The final option is to have the patient walk-in to our facility 24/7 for a free confidential assessment. The staff is on hand around-the-clock to perform evaluations for treatment.

Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)

PHP is held Monday thru Friday from 8a.m. until 4p.m. and patients attend 4-6 group sessions daily. This program will often be used as a step-down transitional program from inpatient treatment or a step-up when the community is not enough to maintain the patient’s well-being. The treatment in PHP is administered by licensed therapists and counselors and overseen by a psychiatrist.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)

IOP is a therapy based treatment program and is the least restrictive level of care that is offered at Riverwoods Behavioral Health System. Patients attend 2-3 groups daily and the program schedule runs Monday thru Friday from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. IOP can be used as a step-down program to transition back into the community or a step-up program.
