Adolescents > Outpatient Services

RiverWoods Behavioral Health System offers adolescent outpatient services at a transitional level of care with a more long-term treatment regimen. Treatment is specifically designed around the patient's needs therefore the average length of the program varies greatly. They are designed for adolescent patients suffering from severe behavioral, emotional, and/or chemical dependency disorders, but do not require the security of inpatient hospitalization. RiverWoods Behavioral Health System's outpatient services are intended to treat patients that are stepping down from inpatient services to a less intense level of care or to provide treatment to those whose symptoms can no longer be managed on a normal outpatient basis in the community. While receiving treatment in outpatient programs, the adolescent will attend group, individual, and family therapy. Treatment times are flexible and can be designed to accommodate the time requirements of the family's schedule. While in the program, our therapists and staff will work with the school system to provide the necessary documentation for compliance.

Partial Hospitalization Programming (PHP) is held Monday thru Friday from 9a.m. until 3:15p.m. and patients attend 4-6 group sessions daily. This program will often be used as a step-down transitional program from inpatient treatment or a step-up when the community is not enough to maintain the patient's well-being. The treatment in PHP is administered by licensed therapists and counselors and overseen by a psychiatrist.

Intensive Outpatient Programming (IOP) is a therapy based treatment program and is the least restrictive level of care that is offered at RiverWoods Behavioral Health System. Patients attend 2-3 groups daily and the program schedule runs Monday thru Friday from 9a.m. until 12p.m. and from 5:30p.m until 8:30p.m in the evening. Much like the partial hospitalization program, IOP can be used as a step-down program to transition back into the community or a step-up program. With the shorter hours and flexible schedule, IOP allows patients to maintain their complicated schedules and participate part time in school while still getting the more intense treatment they need.

These programs are just another part of our commitment to providing the best care possible and offering our patients the greatest opportunity for success. These transitional outpatient levels of treatment are proven methods to help patients transition back into their normal living routines and to reduce the chances of an initial admission or a re-admission to inpatient services. If you feel your child's mental stability is deteriorating please contact our admission office as soon as possible to schedule an appointment. Our staff will assist you in determining if your child would benefit from our outpatient services.
